What we value
Our story
Plum Hollow Farms started with a fascination with creating more balanced relationships between people and natural ecosystems.
For years, entrepreneurs Helene Carter and Steven Bethell had been looking for ways to leverage their decades of experience in combining sustainability and innovation in the global fashion sector on a project that would bring them closer to the physical environment.
Many books, expert consultations, and YouTube videos later, the core concepts that form the foundations of Plum Hollow Farms began to take shape, and in 2023, those ideas started to become a reality.
With the assistance of funding from partner Bank & Vogue, the largest trader of secondhand textiles in Canada, Steve and Helene purchased 178 acres of land near the historic settlement of Plum Hollow, Ontario that includes farmland, orchards, deciduous forest, and wetlands.
This is the beginning of a journey.
In the coming years, Plum Hollow Farms will be
helping the soil in the farm fields recover from decades of intensive practices, creating new habitats to support increased biodiversity, and introducing a regenerative approach to food production that strikes a more harmonious balance between the needs of people, plants, animals, and microbes.
For our team members and founding volunteers this journey will be full of trial, error, and learning as we put ideas into practice.
But for everyone who visits or partners with Plum Hollow Farms, it is our sincere hope that the experience plants the seeds for leading a more balanced and fulfilling life.
